Samsung has announced the release of their first digital SLR camera - the GX-1S. It's due out in February.
Here's a quick overview of the features:
- 6 megapixels
- Uses Schneider Kreuznach lenses
- Compatible with all Pentax digital SLR lenses
- ISO range from 200 to 3200
- Maximum frame rate of 2.8 photos per second
- Maximum shutter speed of 1/4000 of a second
- 11-area autofocus
The GX-1S is developed as a partnership between Samsung and Pentax, which is why the camera will be able to use Pentax digital SLR lenses.
The camera is light and appears quite compact, which makes it part of a growing trend to reduce the overall size and weight of the digital SLR. This makes the GX-1S a lot like the Canon Rebel XT and the line of Pentax *istD cameras.
Price is unknown at the moment, but it seems like it will be less than $1,000 to compete with other digital SLRs with similar features.
